I was hoping to improve my smile because I recently developed a tooth gap. It’s huge. But, my dentist said that I have periodontal disease and he doesn’t recommend that I work on my oral health before their appearance. While he is probably right, He didn’t give me any real guidance. All I got from him was judgment. I’m not likely to return. But, bearing in mind that I do have to get my oral health in order AND I’d like a beautiful smile, what do you recommend? <\/p>\n

I am sorry you were treated with such unkindness and judgment. This shouldn’t happen. I’m a bit concerned about your recent tooth gap. That means that your periodontal disease has advanced to the point that your teeth are shifting because of bone loss. <\/p>\n

Priority one is getting your gum disease under control. What happens from there will depend on the severity of your gum disease. Hopefully, it is not too late for your teeth to be saved. If they are beyond repair, then your best option for a beautiful smile is bone grafting and dental implants<\/a>. If they can be saved, then it will be a matter of your goals. <\/p>\n

You mentioned the tooth gap is huge. In that case, I wouldn’t try to close it with simple dental bonding. You’ll need to actually close it. You can either do traditional braces<\/a> or Invisalign<\/a> for that. But make sure your gum disease is cared for first. Otherwise, shifting your teeth prematurely will lead to them falling out. <\/p>\n
